Summary / Final Course Outcome
The goal of this course is to prepare future surgical technologists for the difficulties they will face in their chosen profession. Controversial issues such as death and dying, aids, transgender reassignment, etc. can be influenced by beliefs and opinions that are cemented in their personal background, ethics and morals. Dependent on the decisions and actions that are made, there can be legal ramifications which are another aspect of the students’ education and one the course is designed to help them explore. Above all, it is important for students to realize that what they say and do, can and does have consequence when working in the health care field. This course provides an early awareness and preparation for the potential of such occurrences in the student’s future. The assortment of activities and assessments that are selected for this course are meant to guide the student through a learning process that helps them learn more about themselves and the legal ramifications (if any) they face by making the wrong choice.
